What is Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to appear (ages 17-25). If they don't have room to grow (impacted), they can cause pain, infection, or damage to other teeth. Extraction is a surgical procedure to remove them.

Signs of Impacted Teeth

• Pain or stiffness in the jaw
• Trapping food behind the tooth
• Infection or gum disease
• Damage to nearby teeth or bone
• Development of a cyst

To prevent potential future problems, some dentists recommend extraction even if impacted teeth aren't currently causing symptoms.
